The third places are vanishing.

Pubs, clubs, places of worship, civic groups — the places that weren't home and weren't work. Every one of them is in structural decline. The belonging gap is real, and it's growing.

Pubs, nightclubs, churches, clubs — all retreating. The institutions that once provided weekly social friction are shrinking or disappearing. The question isn't whether people need somewhere to gather. It's which category will fill the void.
